クラウドファンディングサイト「GoFundMe.com」からメールが届きました。そこにはSimon Phillipsの写真があり、リンクを辿ってGoFundMe.comにアクセスするとSimonからの次のメッセージが記されていました。

Today, December 5th, marks the one year anniversary of the Thomas Fire and a year ago I lost my property within a few hours of the start of the fire.

That fire continued to devastate much of Ventura County and many people lost their homes and businesses.

Just a few weeks ago more fires raged in California destroying many homes, businesses and lives and I can sympathize with those who have suffered losses.

Re-building of a couple of properties has started on my road in Ojai but I am still fighting my insurance company with the help of my legal representative and I have no idea of how long it will take before I can start re-building.

I feel it is time to end this campaign and I want to let everyone know who has contributed, no matter how great or how small, how incredibly thankful I am to you all. Without your kindness, I could not have gotten through this year.

I will keep performing and recording and giving my all to every concert I play.

スーパードラマーにして練達のエンジニアでもあるSimon Phillipsは、1年前に山火事で自身のスタジオと多くの貴重な機材を失いました。その後も変わりなく演奏活動を続け、今年も来日してくれているのですが、十分な創作環境を回復するには、まだ時間を要するようです。

この被災に対しては私も些少ながら寄付を行っていたので上記のメールが届いたのですが、Simonの現況もさることながら、アメリカでは山火事にも固有名詞（この山火事は「トーマス」）がつくということを知ってちょっと新鮮でした。もっともハリケーンにも名前をつける国ですから、当然といえば当然なのかもしれません。
